Different Monsters, Same Politics

This article by Joanna Weiss discusses the "Rally to Restore Sanity And/Or Fear, held in Washington D.C. by Comedy Central's Jon Stewart.  His speech and main concern for the rally was to expose the ridiculousness excess of 24-hour news.

He mostly talked about cable TV, although the internet of course holds up it's end of sleazy news as well.  She then goes on to talk about the article we read in class the other day on Gawker.  The one-night stand with Christine O'Donnell.  A pretty controversial discussion happened in class after reading that one.

I guess we are all like the "zombies" she uses as a metaphor for the common people in the beginning of the article. Each party is heavily opposed to the others views, which makes it harder for the common people to form their own opinions, because they are so strongly influenced to choose one or the other.  But this is how the elections always are.  Stewart was just trying to rid everyone of their one-sided mindsets. Weiss describes it as, --"an unswerving mob that's dead to thought and compromise."
